Magnete aus Hartferrit sind die kostengünstigsten und weltweit verbreitetsten aller Dauermagnete. Hartferrite sind die kostengünstigsten und weltweit verbreitetsten aller Magnetwerkstoffe. Es handelt sich um keramische Werkstoffe, die entsprechend sehr hart und spröde sind. Im Vergleich mit anderen metallischen Magnetwerkstoffen sind die magnetischen Eigenschaften von Hartferritmagneten relativ niedrig. Gegenüber SAMABIUM-KOBALT (SmCo) ist das Energieprodukt um ca. 30% höher, das spezifische Gewicht niedriger und die mechanische Festigkeit viel besser. Die Herstellung erfolgt durch Pressen und Sintern von Rohblöcken. Aus diesen Blöcken werden mit Diamant-Trennscheiben Magnetformen »aus dem Vollen« geschnitten. Dabei können geringe Toleranzen eingehalten werden. Bei größeren Stückzahlen ist auch die Herstellung von einfachen geometrischen Formen - Scheiben, Ringen, Quadern - durch Pressen im Werkzeug möglich. Die magnetischen Werte sind dabei 10...15% niedriger. Die Koerzitivfeldstärke nimmt bei steigender Temperatur ab. Bereits bei ca. 100 °C entstehen irreversible Verluste. Bis 80 °C sind die magnetischen Werte bei einem Tk von -0.11% pro 1 °C reversibel. NEODYMIUM-EISEN-BOB-Magnete korrodieren nicht bei normaler Raumluft. lm Wasser und bei hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit entsteht eine rostähnliche Korrosion. Zum Schutz können wir die Magnete vor der Magnetisierung mit einem galvanischen Überzug versehen. Auch eine Lackierung ist möglich.
